The 67.9-metre Abeking & Rasmussen superyacht Aviva has completed a comprehensive refit at Palumbo SY Refit. Having taken place at the company’s Marseille shipyard, this major project is one of the most significant undertakings carried out by the yard in the past eight years.
Originally delivered by her German builder Abeking & Rasmussen in 2007, Aviva’s open decks have now undergone a complete teak restoration, bringing them back to their original pristine condition.
Indoors, all of the superyacht’s accommodation has been refurbished, while her galley has been upgraded. Furthermore, Palumbo SY Refit were also committed to renewing the CCTV, AV and security systems while the navigation systems have also been upgraded to the highest safety standards.
According to the yard, one of the most challenging parts of the process was executing Aviva’s full paint job, which intended to restore her original opulence and longevity. This paint job was ultimately made possible thanks to a partnership between Palumbo Superyachts and ISC Finishing.
“Throughout the refit process, there was a strong emphasis on teamwork and coordination among the shipyard’s engineers, the superyacht’s captain, technical specialists, and the crew,” explained Palumbo SY Refit. “This collaborative effort was crucial in delivering a project that met the client’s expectations in terms of quality, cost, and schedule.”
The refit also involved a complete overhaul of the Aviva’s main engines and diesel generators, to maximise their operational efficiency, through the removal of the stern shafts and the servicing of her propellers.
Additionally, the superyacht’s hull tanks underwent several hot works, while both the forward and aft thrusters were revised, along with Aviva’s stabilisers and hydraulic systems, including her stern, side doors, and moveable gangways.
Palumbo SY Refit CEO Antonio Palumbo stated: “I am incredibly proud of my team for their dedication and hard work on this project. I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to our client for the trust they placed in us. It is through this mutual respect and cooperation that we were able to deliver such a successful outcome. As we look to the future, we are excited to take on new challenges and achieve even greater results, working side by side with our customers to exceed their wildest expectations”.
