Palumbo Superyachts Refit boosts sustainability
Sustainability is a key part of our journey at Palumbo Superyachts Refit, shaping the way we innovate and operate. By continuing to improve and innovate we aim to create a greener future for the yachting industry.
Research into fuels like green hydrogen and methanol is part of our ongoing effort to make yachting more sustainable. Through our collaboration with RINA, we are studying alternative fuels such as methanol, hydrogen, and lithium batteries, aiming to reduce emissions and to adopt renewable energy sources.
Our commitment to cleaner energy is also reflected in the photovoltaic systems installed across our Mediterranean shipyards, starting with a 1 MW system in 2016 followed by a 380 kW and an 800 kW system in 2024 and in using renewable energy for equipment like forklifts and pumps, helped us to achieve a significant reduction in CO2 emissions over the years.
We are introducing technologies and practices to minimize environmental impact and an example are the Hammelmann Hydro Jetting systems that have replaced traditional sandblasting, offering a more sustainable method for surface treatment.
Additionally, shore power systems for docked vessels have been improved, and we are working with Malta’s Ministry of infrastructure to extend these systems also to larger ships.
Our refitting process is designed to protect the environment, using eco-friendly paints and new technologies to minimize impact. In Malta, the use of Airlite Paint reflects our interest in innovative solutions. This technology reduces air pollutants with an environmental benefit comparable to the CO2 absorption of 40 trees.
Supporting local sustainability, the Palumbo Urban Forest was established, featuring cypress trees, palms, and olive trees as a symbol of our ongoing efforts.
Palumbo Superyachts Refit’s goal is to complete its sustainable transformation by 2030, aiming to achieve leadership in sustainability, both on the new construction and refit projects.
Step by step, we are moving towards a more sustainable future, balancing innovation with environmental responsibility and striving to make consistent progress in reducing our impact.
Through continuous innovations and collaborations, we are dedicated to shaping a yachting industry that respects the planet while delivering excellence.
