In the life of any yacht, there are times when it has to come out of the water for a full check-up.
This is the case for the 63.5m M/Y KOLAHA . The vessel, with a sophisticated exterior by Naval Architect Andrea Vallicelli, features a displacement steel hull and aluminium superstructure, with teak decks. Fitted with 'zero speed stabilizers', she is powered by 2 Caterpillar 2,364hp diesel engines and propelled by twin screw propellers so to reach a top speed of 16 knots, and comfortably cruise at 14 knots. With her 130,000 litre fuel tanks she performs a maximum range of 3,109 nautical miles at 14 knots, whereas her water tanks can store around 35,000 litres of fresh water.
Delivered in 2010 by ISA, she is now due for her 10-year class survey and the fairly complex business has been assigned to Palumbo Superyachts Marseille due to the yard’s excellent facilities, including a new 500 tonne floating dry dock, combined with its engineering team’s ability of solving most problems in-house and thus accelerating the work rate dramatically when the pressure is on.

M/Y WHISPERING ANGEL - TECHNICAL JOBS AND GENERAL MAKEOVERS
After extensive charter cruising to unbeatable Mediterranean destinations like Portofino, Sardinia, Amalfi, Cote d’Azur to explore their clear and cool blue waters ideal for swimming and snorkeling and indulge in their famous cuisine, WHISPERING ANGEL has called at Palumbo Superyachts Ancona for a comprehensive refit involving the following technical jobs and general makeovers:
running the periodic maintenance procedures required by manufacturer specifications for the main engines and generators – an activity that, if professionally performed, keeps the equipment running efficiently, maximizing reliability and minimizing costs;
general engine room cleaning and system renewing – this apparently trivial task involves pumping bilge fluids out, performing a visual inspection for any weeping joints, oil or hydraulic fluid spills, corrosion or cracks, missing or loose nuts, bolts or screws. When performed by tradespeople, this task prevents future troubles also of environmental nature;
PSY Marseille was honored to have the 73m MY Titania call on their expertise prior to the 2019-2020 Caribbean season.
PSY is located in Marseille’s main harbor with 4 graving docks, capacities of up to 125 meters and alongside mooring for up to 200 meters.
Drawing on a skilled team led by Project Mngr. Lucas Delahaye we executed the work on Titania with the same love of precision and attention to detail that go into the creation of our new-builds.
The first of the two work phases lasted 10 days which involved dry-docking the boat for works on the rudders, the stabilizers and the hull. READ MORE --> photo credit @Sigrun Sauerzapfe aka Siggi
PSY MARSEILLE - A NEW FLOATING DOCK
A new 500t floating dry dock dedicated to lifting boats is operating in our Marseille shipyard, where it has already started its mission to host yachts up to 45 meters in length and with a maximum draft of 4.5 meters.
Inside, the basin will allow to carry out all kinds of Refit works: from painting, to mechanical work, to teak, all done in a covered and protected environment.
The floating dock is part of a significant investment in the shipyard to expand its capabilities - following the high demand - and in support of Palumbo Superyachts Marseille's ongoing strategy to increase the quality of services, now justified by the renewal of the state concession for further 21 years. Since entering Palumbo Superyachts’ Naples facility back in July 2019, Number Nine has had her stern enhanced by an additional eight metres, bringing her to the current length of 45 metres. READ MORE -->
